The Soaring Society of South Africa (SSSA) represents all gliding and touring motor gliders in South Africa. Gliding is the ultimate free flying experience. It is a truly diverse sport that can be enjoyed at all levels, from the thriving club scene, to aerobatics, to international racing championships.

For sheer grace of flight, the sport of soaring is unsurpassed. Sailplanes come in a variety of styles and sizes but they are all graceful in the air. As the glider lifts off, the earth drops away and the horizon expands. A feeling of awe comes over you as the sailplane climbs toward the clouds.

Aero-Tow: flight Gliders can be towed into the air by a single engine plane, and released once sufficient altitude has been attained.

Winch Launch: Flight Gliders can also be winch launched from the ground, and once airborne it is very dependent on thermals to gain altitude.

Motor Glider Flight: These unique gliders are equipped with a single propeller engine and can get airborne on its own, and switch off its engine once in thermal areas to get the same experience in the thrill of gliding.
